Our Story

What started as a small group of friends learning and playing volleyball eventually grew into something much bigger.

In 2024, a group of passionate volleyball players came together with a shared love for the game. As more people joined, we recognised the need for a different kind of volleyball community—one that was affordable, welcoming, inclusive, and focused on creating opportunities for everyone, regardless of experience or background.

What began as casual sessions among friends quickly developed into a vision: to create a club that would make volleyball more accessible while building a strong sense of community both on and off the court.

In 2025, that vision became a reality when VR1 Volleyball Club was officially established.

VR1 stands for Vanguard Rising. The name reflects our ambition to lead the growth of volleyball, create meaningful opportunities for players, and help raise the standard of the sport throughout Melbourne's western suburbs and beyond.

The "1" represents unity. It reflects our belief that volleyball is at its best when people come together, support one another, and grow as one community. No matter your background, experience, skill level, or goals, everyone has a place at VR1.

As a not-for-profit organisation, everything we do is centred around giving back to our members and investing in the future of volleyball. Whether through social volleyball, junior development programs, community events, coaching opportunities, or competitive State League pathways, our goal is to create an environment where people can learn, compete, and belong.

Today, VR1 continues to grow with a commitment to developing athletes, supporting volunteers, and creating opportunities for people from all walks of life to experience the sport we love.

Our vision is to grow volleyball across Melbourne's western suburbs and beyond, extending towards Geelong and regional Victoria, while building a connected community that supports, inspires, and lifts one another up.
